How to Reduce Neptune Trident Reagent Consumption

How to Reduce Neptune Trident Reagent Consumption

Apex Fusion · Neptune Trident

How to Cut Reagent Use on Your Neptune Trident

Neptune Trident lets you move past the standard testing schedule and reduce reagent consumption. Below is how to set up one Ca/Mg test per day and two Alkalinity tests per day.

Reef Exclusive · Apex Fusion, computer only · ~10 minutes
Before you start This setup is done on a computer through Apex Fusion only - some interface elements aren't available on phones or tablets. Before making any changes, save a photo or a copy of the original hidden-output code, so you can quickly restore the previous settings if anything goes wrong.

Setup
Finding the Trident module

1 Open Apex Fusion on a computer

Go to apexfusion.com/apex and log in to your account.

2 Open the correct Apex controller

Find the Apex controller connected to the Trident you want to change. Click its name next to the icon (for example, LPS) - not the icon itself.

3 Expand the toolbar

On the Dashboard, click the gear icon labeled Expand.

Expand button on the Dashboard
4 Open Modules

After the toolbar expands, click Modules.

5 Record the Trident module name

Find the row where Type = Trident ACM and record the exact module Name. In this example it's TRI_4.

Module list, Trident ACM row
Important Do not use the Trident NP row - that's a separate module for nitrate/phosphate. The number after "TRI_" is the module address you'll need in the URL later.
6 Return to Dashboard

Click Dashboard in the upper-left corner.

Ca/Mg - 1 test per day

7 Open Configure on any normal Output

Choose any ordinary Output on the Dashboard (for example RETPUMP_3_3) and click its Configure gear. The pump itself won't be changed - this is just how you get to the settings you need.

8 Confirm Output Configuration

The selected ordinary Output opens. In this example the Name is RetPump_3_3. Don't change any settings here.

9 Change the URL to the hidden Trident output

At the end of the browser URL, replace the first number with your Trident module number. For TRI_4, change 3_3 to 4_3 and press Enter.

.../config/outputs/3_3 → .../config/outputs/4_3
Changing the URL in the browser address bar
Important For a Trident named TRI_X, use X as the first number in the URL.
10 Verify Trident_4_3

After pressing Enter, verify that the page now belongs to the Trident: the URL ends in 4_3, and the Name field shows Trident_4_3.

Verifying Name = Trident_4_3
11 Set Ca/Mg to one test per day

Delete the existing schedule in the Configuration field and enter the code below. This example creates one daily trigger at about 15:00.

Set OFF If Time 14:59 to 15:00 Then ON

Tip You can choose another time. Keep the ON window 1 minute long - that's enough to trigger the test.
12 Save the Ca/Mg schedule

Click the orange Update Apex cloud button. Wait for "Success - New configuration sent successfully," then click OK.

Part 2
Alkalinity - 2 tests per day

13 Open the Alkalinity output

Return to the browser URL and change only the second number: 4_3 to 4_4. Press Enter.

.../config/outputs/4_3 → .../config/outputs/4_4

14 Verify Alk_4_4

Confirm the Name field now shows Alk_4_4. This is the separate hidden output used here for the Alkalinity schedule.

Verifying Name = Alk_4_4
15 Locate the current Alkalinity timing code

The Configuration box on the right shows the existing timing code. In this example:

OSC 360:00/001:00/359:00 Then ON
Existing Alkalinity timing code
16 Set two Alkalinity tests per day

Replace the old code with two 1-minute windows. The example below triggers around 08:00 and 17:00.

Set OFF If Time 07:59 to 08:00 Then ON If Time 16:59 to 17:00 Then ON
New Alkalinity schedule code
Tip Choose times that match your lighting schedule. Prefer one test before the main lights turn on and another well into the photoperiod.
17 Save and finish

Click the orange Update Apex cloud button again. When the Success message appears, click OK. The standard Trident schedule is now complete.

Remember before you start

Before making any changes, save the original Configuration code. If you ever need to restore the previous schedule, you'll be able to bring it back quickly without hunting for the factory defaults.
